British Chinese sculptor Philippa Hadley Choy has used her two-month residency on a new series exploring ideas in sculpture with a nod to Italian Baroque master Gianlorenzo Bernini (1598-1680) and Chinese cultural and artistic traditions.

Choy's work is underpinned by conceptual concerns, but is laced with a canny humour. Bernini's exquisite drapery, the role of mountains in Chinese artistic tradition and feet all collide -- or converge -- in Choy's new works. For her Open Studio Choy presents a video work and bright etched plaster drawings as the backdrop for a forest of corporal sculptures.

Choy's works will be on view Thursday 18 December 5 - 7pm at the Chinese Arts Centre, Market Buildings, Thomas Street, Manchester M4 1EU. T +44 (0)161 832 7271.

Philippa Hadley Choy's Open Studio continues to 22 December 2008
