Deal, by Mayling To and Susan Pui San Lok

The artists Susan Pui San Lok and Mayling To will launch their joint publication based on their 1998 show, Deal, at the East London Gallery on Thursday, 10 February 2000.

 

The book launch coincides with Lok's solo exhibition, lean to, at the gallery from 7 to 11 February 2000.

Susan Pui San Lok is Artist in Residence at the gallery during this period.

The publication documents new works under the title Deal developed in dialogue by the artists. Deal was originally commissioned and exhibited by the 198 Gallery in Brixton, South London, in 1998.

The book features full-colour reproductions, an essay by Raimi Gbadamosi, and transcripts from a panel discussion that took place during the Deal exhibition, with contributions from Gilane Tawadros, Sonia Boyce, Erika Tan.

Designed by Christian Kusters in collaboration with the artists, Deal is an independent publication made possible with the support of the Arts Council of England, Bexley Council, the Elephant Trust, Epping Forest District Council, and London Arts Board.

Susan Pui San Lok is engaged in combined practice / theory PhD research for the African and Asian Visual Artists Archive (AAVAA) at the University of East London.

Mayling To is currently undertaking MA Fine Art at Goldsmiths College. Her forthcoming projects include an exhibition at Site Gallery, Sheffield, 4 - 11 March 2000.
