East Asia Journal

Eastern Art Report covers both the traditional and contemporary aspects of Judaic arts. But, not unlike Islamic art, the subject of 'contemporary art with a Judaic content' is bound to be fraught with controversy -- is it really Judaic, or simply contemporary art from Israel, or art created by artists who wish to assert their Jewishness or Judaic beliefs?

Like artists drawn from other denominations, especially artists born and brought up as Muslims, Jewish artists from Israel do not often wish to be seen within a religious framework. In the event these pages concentrate on classical and traditional Judaic rather than 'contemporary Judaic' art, though there may be references and items of interest from time to time.
