Cultural Diversity Databank and Roadmap

The Cultural Diversity Databank and Roadmap, sponsored and maintained by EAP, draws on two decades of careful archiving of materials related to non-European communities in the West. The focus of these archived materials is on the artistic and cultural activities of these communities. The artistic and cultural concerns of the West's and in particular Europe's so-called ethnic minority communities, also contextualised as their heritage, in recent years have been given priority by governments seeking to minimise social unrest by giving more representation to these communities in education, jobs and politics. By far the greatest progress in that direction is widely judged to have been made in Britain, though France and Germany have also moved ahead.

The events following the 11 September 2001 attacks on the United States, hereinafter refered to as "9/11" have been a setback to these moves to promote or celebrate Europe's cultural diversity inclusive of its "new" -- implicity non-white -- communities, that are made up largely of immigrants, including asylum seekers.

The Cultural Diversity Databank and Roadmap consists of a "databank" -- digital and physical archives of published and unpublished materials -- and a Roadmap, a framework for monitoring progress towards cultural diversity in Britain, Europe and other countries in the West as well as the East, eg Japan.

The Cultural Diversity Databank forms the basis, or provides the source, of many an article on EAP's online and print publications. For further details contact afis@eapgroup.com.
